Conventions analysis front cover and brief

Brief:
To design a front cover, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine. All images and text used must be original, a minimum of four images must be used.
Institution:
The institution is Q who owns this magazine and publishes monthly issues in the UK. It first published in October 1986 setting itself apart from other music magazines with monthly production and higher standards of photography and printing. It was originally called cue but changed its name so it wouldn't be mistaken for a snooker magazine. It is now the best selling monthly music magazine in the UK.
Ideology:
Q magazine uses suitable images and information to convey their ideology to their target audience so it will persuade them to purchase the magazine. The sub-title in the skyline shows that they believe in being the magazine that people will read to get the best knowledge of the music industry and their favorite artists.
Audience:
The type of audience that will buy this will be ones who likes popular artists that are in the top charts. The audience that buys Q magazine will be  mature adults who want to know more about the music rather than what they are wearing. About 30% of the audience that buy Q magazine are women and around 70% are men.
Representation:
Both genres are represented in the magazine as strong and dominant with the women portraying more of their sexual side with minimal clothing so to maybe attract male viewers, whilst men are portrayed more as laid back and casual. Age is not really represented in Q magazine, all the artists are represented by their personality rather then age although, it is shown in a sophisticated way for more older viewers. The colours red and black represent power and strength whilst the white represents perfection creating a positive connotation.
